Title Analysis of Fatty Acid Composition of Vegetable Oils

Fatty acid composition is a valuable criteria for vegetable oils, sometimes it can be used for establishing the originality of the oil. Fatty acid composition also is an important value for characterization different products used in technique, e.g., standard EN 14214 limits the maximum amount of linolenic acid methyl esters in biodiesel. The fatty acid composition is used to characterize vegetable oils used in food, medicine or cosmetics according to various directives and pharmacopoeias. The fatty acid composition can vary for different breeds; thus knowledge of fatty acid composition can serve as one of the factors for choosing seeds from the most appropriate variety for farming.

Description of the technology

We are offering to determine fatty acid composition for vegetable oils (without certificate). Analysis can be realized by gas chromatography. This method involves derivatization of vegetable oils to fatty acid methyl esters and sequential analysis. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) can be applied for determination of fatty acid composition, too. Derivation of vegetable oil is not essential for NMR method (however the amount of identified fatty acids is limited).

Applications Food, cosmetics, medicine, technique and other fields, where vegetable oils or their derivatives are used.

The analysis can be done quickly. On customer request we provide consultations on the results.
