Title Subsonic Aerodynamic Testing

Low speed wind tunnels are used to test the aerodynamic characteristics of objects and allows to investigating various flow phenomena. The tests are performed under well controlled flow circumstances that increase accuracy, validity and reliability of test results. The wind tunnel could provide technical information for a large number of engineering applications such as external aerodynamics (airplanes, cars, trains, motorcycles etc.), civil engineering (flow over models of buildings, bridges, and other outdoor structures), wind energy installations and other fields.

Description of the technology

We offer subsonic aerodynamic testing on the Armfield Wind Tunnel. The performance of the tunnel and its tool sets allows successfully conduct tests to obtain aerodynamic properties of various objects. The self-contained wind tunnel is equipped with two- component balance system and air speed indicator and has the working section (see Fig.1): 304mm wide x 304mm high x 457mm long (octagonal cross- section). The Armfield Wind Tunnel has such main features:

  • Contraction and diffuser: precision glass fiber moldings.
  • Test section: clear acrylic, which retracts to permit access to the models; adjustment of models can be made with the tunnel in operation.
  • Fan: Variable-speed motor driven unit downstream of the working section permitting steeples control of airspeed between 0 and 26m/s.
  • Balance: Lift - 7.0N, Drag - 2.5N, Sensitivity ±0.01 N.
  • Air speed: Indicated on inclined manometer directly calibrated in m/s

Applications Determination of the aerodynamic properties of objects may be required in the design of equipment, components and complex structures in various fields such as air vehicles and land vehicles, construction, wind power installations and etc.
