The invention relates to technical physics and can be used in metal processing, to obtain structured surface in micro-level with surface wettability angle anisotropy. The aim of the invention is to develop a method for steel surface irradiation with pulsed Nd:/YAG laser, to achieve anisotropic hydrophobic surface. Anisotropic hydrophobicity depends on surface texture direction, which is being made with laser irradiation. To make steel surface with an anisotropic hydrophobicity, method provides production of hydrophobic steel with average surface roughness Ra < 20 nm by surface exposure to laser pulses. To form anisotropic hydrophobicity on the steel surface, intensity of laser treatment have to be within the range of 142.1 to 284.3 MW/cm2 and pulse duration within the range of 1 to 10 ns. Fig.1 shows skeleleton diagram for implementation of the offered method where: 1 is a laser, 2 is a lens, 3 is a sample, and 4 is a two-coordinate manipulator. Fig.2 shows the steel surface after irradiation.
