The investigation provides the study of nonlinear phenomenon in DC-DC switching converters. The main objectives of this paper are to explore different types of complex behavior, such as chaos and bifurcations, in the converters as system parameters are changed. The feasibility of using numerical path-following technique in the process of the construction of bifurcation diagrams is demonstrated. The boost converter operating in continuous current mode is used as an example circuit, and the corresponding bifurcation diagrams, based on the discrete time iterative maps, are presented. It is shown that this type of circuits may exhibit smooth bifurcations common to wide class of dynamical systems, however, the appereance of non-smooth border collision bifurcations is also demonstrated and the corresponding analysis of their influence on the branches of bifurcation diagrams is provided. Some useful engineering applications of complete bifurcation diagrams are also discussed.
