Porous and dense ceramic materials were produced from industrial waste – glass as by-product from glass fiber production and sewage sludge, and mineral raw material – clay from the deposit Apriki 1m deep and 3m deep. The chemical analysis of sewage sludge was performed. Sewage sludge contains material “Organosorb” (bentonite), 50 % of organic matter, phosphorous, nitrogen and some trace elements: Cr, Zn, Cd, Ni, Pb and Cu. The second raw material is Latvian clay from deposit Apriki, where clay from the upper layer (1 m) was used as an additive for porous ceramic, but clay from the deeper layer (3 m) – as an additive for dense ceramic materials. Clay was investigated by differential-thermal analysis (DTA) as well as thermal treatment. The various waste compositions have been mixed from the mentioned raw materials in order to produce the optimal waste mixture for making of porous and dense ceramic materials during sintering. Further experiments were performed to produce porous ceramic materials. The conditions of sintering of porous ceramics were established after various experiments: heating rate until 700 oC – 10 o/min and subsequent heating until 1100 oC with heating rate 12o/min. Two compositions with optimal properties (porosity 38 - 52 % and bulk density 1.35 – 1.67 g/cm3) were selected for production of porous ceramic materials. Such materials could be used as the additives for building materials and for insulation purposes. It is necessary to develop the functional properties of produced materials to establish exact scope of application of these materials.
