Activities of Professional Orientation in Secondary Schools and Analyses of Goals Achieved

There are considered results of development of European Social Fund (ESF) project “Arrangements of professional orientation in schools of city Riga” (Contract # 2006/0132/VPD1/ESF/PIAA/05/APK/3.2.7.2/0126/007) and ”Career day in schools of city of Riga and Riga region” (Contract # 2006/0132/VPD1/ESF/PIAA/05/APK/3.2.7.2/0129/007), worked out in the institute of Applied Computer systems (ACS) of Riga Technical University (RTU). Framework of these contains analyses of school party of 549 pupil pooling results, involving learners from classes 10-12 of seven secondary schools with the main goal to clear out what knowledge about professions are needed to choose the best branch of industry and its occupations and to plan a professional activities in next future. Process of professional orientation arrangements during career day in seven secondary schools of city Riga and Riga region are discussed, starting with introduction to professions of programmer, tester, system analyst and programming engineer, which could be get up in the ACS, were followed by appearance of representatives from IT branch employers and students from RTU. Main goals and results obtained from organizing excursion to holding company ”Exigen Latvia” and limited liability company ”S Fabrika” developing program products were discussed too in the article. The article provides information about pooling results of 198 school leavers in the year2007 to ascertain, how many school leavers plan to continue studies in higher schools and which professions they have choosed
