Designing, Production and Assembly Analysis of the Folding Outsize Wooden Sculptures
2011
Rihards Vidzickis

Projecting, designing and implementation of the outsize folding sculpture “Dinits” (height ~ 6 m) is described in this article. The attention has been paid to the co-operation with the customer and the optimization of the limited financial resources, chosen place and technical implementation. Necessity to create a precise physical model of the object resulted in the analysis of the forces of gravity, development of the system of support as well as planning of the technological process. The scale model was created using scale 1:10 in order to understand the precise volume of the potential sculpture, to plan the details, to adjust the measures of the details to the measures of the material and to specify the location of the connecting lines and places. Map of the material cutting-out as well as a scheme of instruments and treatment equipment to be used has been added foreseeing the possibility of changing them depending on the place of treatment. The exact technological sequence described in the article is illustrated by the pictures, and a special attention is paid to the problems which have or could appear as well as the respective solutions are provided. Detailed description of the partial and full assembly of the folding wooden sculpture, the highest in Latvia, as well as problem analysis and description of the implemented solutions are given in the article.
