This paper describes the future development trends in the power grid – Smart grids and its intelligent measurement systems. The paper deals with the introduction of the enabling conditions, functional requirements, and technology solutions. The article analyzes the intelligent measurement systems, there are main advantages and disadvantages, as well as gives an insight into intelligent network development trends in Latvia and the world.
