Development of powder metallurgy has led to emergence of many new materials for the automotive industry, machine tools, aerospace and other areas. New powder materials allow to create new parts and entire components made of metallic powders. Ferromagnetic iron powders are the primary mass products of powder metallurgical industry. In this context, there is a strong needs for transporting of ferromagnetic powders between components of production line, or for further compaction. Existing methods of transportation, such as pneumatic conveyors, bucket elevators and screw have a number of drawbacks. In addressing the challenges of transportation of ferromagnetic materials the proposed method of conveying by impulse electromagnetic field can be employed. This work is devoted to the research of ferromagnetic materials transportation phenomenon by impulse electromagnetic field. For analysis of the process a theoretical model is developed. Theoretical model is used for process design. The equipment for laboratory experiments on conveying of ferromagnetic materials is designed. A comparison of different ferromagnetic powder materials for the transportation by impulse electromagnetic field is presented. The estimation of the interaction of the magnetic field with ferromagnetic material is accomplished by numerical simulation (FEA). Thus, it is possible to determine the optimal conditions of exploitation of equipment. Recommendations for an effective electromagnetic conveyor design are formulated. Special cases where electromagnetic conveying approach can be used, for instance movement of the powder in a protective atmosphere (eg inert gas), dosing, mixing and injection of powders are outlined. This work is realised in the Laboratory of Powder Materials, at Riga Technical University (Latvia). The work is written in English, consists of an introduction, 6 parts, conclusions, bibliography, 6 appendices, 51 illustrations, 9 tables. Total 114 pages. bibliography contains 119 references.
