In 19th century health resorts for medical treatment used natural healing resources – water and dunes. Therapy in climatic and balneological health resorts of Baldone, Jūrmala and Liepāja was connected with recreation and entertainment. Climate, an attractive environment and the presence of the sea were important for health resorts. Parks acquired a great importance. Health resorts and bathing-places had their own esthetics and content – they were designed for medical treatment, recreation and entertainment. The appearance of health resorts stimulated changes in the city planning.
