The docent of German language at the Riga Polytechnic Institute Carl Friedrich Glasenapp (1847 - 1915) was one of the best known biographers of his contemporary Richard Wagner who had been chief of orchestra at Riga. C. F. Glasenapp has written some fundamental books about the life and work of Richard Wagner. In 1903 C.F. Glasenapp has been nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature
