Fiscal Policy in Latvia during Economic Crises

After joining the EU, the Latvian govermentt implemented the pro-cyclical expansionary fiscal policy. The government''s expenditure policy was aimed at satisfying current needs instead of ensuring sustainable develpment. Fiscal consolidation volumes relative to GDP were among the largest in Europe. Budget adjustments included several changes in tax policy mainly in the form of increasing tax rates or expanding tax bases.
