The Mystery of Two Jacques in Beckett and Shakespeare’
Notes and Queries
2011
Tatjana Kelebeka
The article discusses the correlation between the names of characters in William Shakespeare’s As You Like It and Samuel Beckett’s Molloy and Rough for Theatre II, paying particular attention to the duplication of the name Jacques. It is argued that both authors use the method of ‘unnaming by means of names’ which is directed against the authenticity of the name and referent.
