9th Baltic Conference in Europe "Transitions, Visions and Beyond" 2010
Oksana Lentjušenkova

The economic growth is one of the main priorities of economical politics of all countries. Meanwhile, investments are one of main factors in providing of economic growth. During last ten years, role of innovations and knowledge in economics has increased. Consequently, the importance of investments in the human capital rises. Effect of investments in the human capital on the economic growth in Latvia has been investigated insufficiently; in addition, objective and topical information for calculation of the total amount of investments and comparisons with other states is missing. The author of the article has summarized data on the amount of investments in the human capital and their dynamics in the Baltic States and made calculations on the possible impact of investments on results of the entrepreneurship and the gross domestic product. The specific weight of the amount of investments in the human capital in the GDP in the Baltic States composes about 0,5% to1,1% while the specific weight in the total structure of investments composes only 1,4% to 2,5%, which witnesses that the subject of economics do not choose the human capital as the object of investments.
