Powder Metallurgy in Russia, CIS and Baltic Countries. Analysis of Production and Use of Iron Powders (2003-2013)

Analysis is provided regarding development of powder metallurgy in the post-Soviet area during the period from 2004 to 2014. Special attention is paid to production and use of iron and steel powders (ISPs) in the Russian Federation and the Baltic countries. The total amount of own production of iron powders in Russia is reduced, and the share of import powder, mostly from Sweden, is increasing and today has reached 50%. Annual consumption of ISPs is estimated as 12-14 thousand tons. The main consumers are plants manufacturing details and components for automotive industry which, however, doesn't feature high dynamism. Components of pumps for oil sector have become a certain finding for some companies. The article provides some information regarding the main producers of powders and powder details. Other trends of possible effective application of ISPs for welding and spraying, production of composites, production of sorbents are considered.
