This paper explores the relevant three-dimensional (3D) roughness parameters used to characterise surface texture of nanostructured coatings. The purpose of this work is to analyze 3D texture parameters for obtaining information of the nanoparticles coated surface properties. Several main parameters were measured and analyzed namely, height (Ssk, Sku), spatial (Str), functional (Vmc, Vvc) and feature (Sds). Two samples with different deposition technologies were chosen for this study to determine functional properties of surfaces and by comparing the measured 3D parameters to estimate which sample shows better operational characteristics.
