The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of two different types of SiO2 sources (micro-sized SiO2 particles and nano-sized SiC particles) on the thermal shock resistance (TSR) of macro-porous alumina ceramics produced by chemical foaming of slurry. Pores form as a result of a chemical reaction between aluminium and water in an alkaline medium (pH>9) during the hydrogen gas evolution reaction and solidification of the suspension.
