The article reviews the activities of the Scientific Research Fund at the University of Latvia from its foundation in 1935 until its liquidation in 1940. The money of the Fund was allocated to the academic staff of the University for scientific research, acquisition of hardware, research material, expeditions, archival studies, etc. The Fund received a contribution from the state budget, obtained subsidies from the Culture Foundation, special funds of the University of Latvia and private donations. The allocation of funds and the fund management was conducted by a special committee, whose decisions on the financial allocation and the utilization had to be approved by the Council of the University. The committee consisted of six members and the President – Rector of the University of Latvia. During five years, the fund supported 66 requests submitted by academic staff of the University of Latvia, and the total amount provided was of about 87 000 lats. Found’s activities ceased in 1940 due to the change of state power.
