Social and political processes are the key factors when analysing the construction situation in the centre of Riga. The book presents analyses of several construction projects carried out over last decade. These projects serve as the background for evaluation of policies and activities by the Riga City Council. The author focuses on restoration of historical objects, trends and methodology thereof, as well as discusses the planned construction at free sites in the city and its reasonability and consequences. The whole book builds on the idea that future cultural and architectural heritage is being created now and that issues related to new constructions rank, in terms of their significance, next to preservation of cultural and historic monuments at a national level.
