Abstract Electrostatic surface charges cause serious technological problems, such as shocks and explosions or damage electronic equipment measured in sizeable global cost. Currently there are no methods for straightforward electrostatic charge detection on market and development functional materials for power free naked-eye optical detection of electrostatic charges would be highly desirable.
