Sapropel is a semi-renewable resource of the subterranean depths - it is lime and fine-grained inland sediment rich in organic matter. Sapropel is a valuable source of natural origin. The available sapropel volume in Latvia is 2 billion m3. In the study on the potential use of sapropel-lime binder in hemp composite materials, sapropel-lime, magnesium oxide-chloride and lime binders were used and compared both with each other and with available in literature . As a filler for composite material, hemp shives, wood fibers and birchwood saw dust were used. A recycling opportunities need to be found for these fillers, as they are agricultural and industrial by-products.
