At the end of XIX - the beginning of the XX century the main ways of development of the garden were determined, a balance was found between following formal laws and searching for new means of expression. Eclecticism has exhausted its development potential, and art as a creative activity has not allowed to manipulate the already known. This problem was solved by the Art Nouveau style. The architect and the gardener no longer argued who was more important. They began to work together. The outstanding landscape architect of the Russian Empire Georg Friedrich Ferdinand Kuphaldt (1853-1938), who in Riga's public parks and gardens realized his ideas on the basis of natural and scientific foundations, in cooperation with the well-known florist, dendrologist Simanis Klēvers (1834-1922) and gardener of the city of Katterfeld, at the beginning of the 20th century in the resort of Libava, combining stylistically different plantings created a unique den dromologically varied landscaped Seaside park. In the southern part of which the features of Art Nouveau were noticeable. In Libava, a well-planned layout and planting system were created: the boulevard circle and avenues connected the shopping and public center of the city with the resort and the Seaside Park in a common architectural and spatial composition.
