Energy efficiency in large industries in Latvia has a great potential. To stimulate energy efficiency in industrial sector Latvia has chosen to impose special requirements supplementing the requirements than came from EU Directives. Energy Efficiency Law that came into force in March 2016 impose energy audits or energy management systems to large consumers and large enterprises with aim to introduce at least three energy efficiency improvement measures recommended by the energy management system or energy audit with the highest estimated energy savings or economic return. There has been a public turmoil since Energy Efficiency Law came into force, however latest publications have shown that public opinion has changed to more positive as the number of consumers, who had fulfilled the requirements, grows, and the energy efficiency benefits becomes perceptible.
