Since 1984 research on corrosion of cultural heritage buildings of Latvia
has been conducted in the Centre of Restoration and Conservation of Stone
Materials, Institute of Silicate Materials, Riga Technical University. This
research provides a wide collection of materials and experience in ensuring
the permanence of historical buildings. Accurate investigations must be a
fundamental part of the restoration technology of each object. The acquired
experience has given valuable knowledge about the aspects of use of different
binders (Portland cement, lime etc.) in restoration processes.
