On the Role of the Linguistic Datas of Conversation Manuals in Historico-Etymological Reconstructions
Russian Linguistics 2003
Jurijs Hramovs

As the object of the research kynological lexis of the Russian language was taken. At the reconstruction of the history of the kynological lexis, the greater importance is got by written documents of colloquial, folk language, than of bookish-written one. This explains our reference to phrase-books (some of which are published only recently). The editions of G.Birkfellner, A.Fałowski, G.Stone etc. have served as the material of the research. Etymological (Russian выжлец 'hound /he-dog/', кобель 'he-dog') and historical (Russian хорт 'greyhound /smoth-haired hunting dog/', борзая собака 'greyhound', гончая собака 'hound', выжлец 'hound /he-dog/' etc.) reconstruction in the light of data from phrase-books and other written documents of colloquial, folk language are specified in the research.
