Development of European Gas Networks and the Role of Transmission System Operators on the Road to 2050
2020
Ance Ansone

In October 2020, the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas (ENTSOG) issued an “Action Plan for the Roadmap 2050” updating the recommendations of the “Roadmap for Gas Networks for 2050” published in 2019, concerning the European Gas Transmission System Operator ( TSOs) in the energy transition to clean energy and decarbonisation. In order for the Latvian gas supply system to be able to develop effectively and change over time, it is important to identify and understand the general development directions of the European gas industry (including renewable gas development) and the role of transmission system operators in the future. It is important to apply the single market principles to the future gases, both from a climate and a market, as well as from a regulatory point of view. In turn, new challenges and future roles await gas transmission system operators: infrastructure investors; energy system integrators; infrastructure developers as well as providers of essential services.
