Some Aspects of Colour Concept Application in Architecture
2020
Larisa Iļinska, Oksana Ivanova

Architecture as any type of art can be regarded as a multimodal sign system. Two main sign systems of architecture can be distinguished: verbal language, the language of professional terms, notions, concepts and categories; and the language of architectural medium, i.e., special language that allows expressing the artistís informative, decorative, or symbolic intent in the composition. The integral part of studies in architecture also focuses on colour. The impression created by means of colour concept depends on such factors as form, space, distance and the angle of view. Multimodal elements of architecture provide better understanding of why all of them are considered together and what meanings they convey as a whole. The results obtained may be used for further study of the evolution of colour terms in different thematic fields.
