This paper deals with the problem of battery balancing in modular multilevel converters with independent voltage sources. Battery balancing algorithm is proposed. Mathematical background of definition of the rules of algorithm are presented. Algorithm is evaluated using MATLAB Simulink 7-level modular multilevel converter with independent sources. Obtained results show, that the algorithm is working properly, the comparison of two different cases with and without implementation of the algorithm is provided.
