Considirations for Development of High Speed Response BLDC Motor Drive with GaN Semiconductors

The paper discusses benefits and challenges from application of GaN transistors into inverter design for BLDC motor to increase dynamics of the electrical drive. The paper shows importance of oscillation reduction, benefits from reduced dead time and possible improvement of speed controller to develop inverter with a fast transient response and high power density. The discussion is based on the results obtained from the experimental data, literature analysis and simulations. The results show potential to improve dynamics of the BLDC motor drive by applying GaN transistors.
