Comparison of IPv4 and IPv6 Forwarding Performance in Virtual and Hardware Routers
2023 IEEE 64th International Scientific Conference on Information Technology and Management Science of Riga Technical University (ITMS 2023): Proceedings 2023
Ints Meijers

It is essential to measure IPv6 performance in current hardware and virtual routers to assess readiness for IPv6 adoption. IPv4 serves as a good baseline for comparison due to its maturity both in hardware and virtual devices. Due to IPv4 scarcity, migration to IPv6 has become an essential topic for conversation and research. In this paper performance of IPv4 and IPv6 forwarding is evaluated, and results such as throughput, latency, and packet loss rate are reported. © 2023 IEEE.
