Latvian power system historically developed as deficit power system: in a greater degree developing distribution networks, and sparing less attention to generation development, because there was always possibility to buy power from neighboring countries. Presently Latvian power system “Latvenergo” works in a single power ring with power systems of Byelorussia, Lithuania, Russia and Estonia. To cover the maximal consumption it is necessary to import about 40% of all set power (approximately 2 GW) from nearby power systems. According to “Latvenergo” prognoses in 2015 a situation can be folded so that will be not actual question of electricity price, but where and for whom in general will be possible to purchase the missing power. In the work there are considered such questions as, what kind and what fuel type power stations need to be built.
