The aim of the article is to analyse the readiness of pre-school children to learn Form 1 in the Latvian language in accordance with the educational policy documents.According to the analysis of children's speech recordings and an survey of pre-school teachers on Latvian language skills of minority children, it can be concluded that Latvian language skills of several children who attended groups with Russian language as everyday language were assessed as insufficient . The decision to switch only to Latvian as a teaching language in pre-school is correct.
