The voice tone is an extralinguistic component that modifies the meaning of verbal message. Communication quality is dependent on the resemblance between produced and perceived messages. The speaker expects the listener to perceive not only the words’ meaning but also the accompanying emotional tone. Why can neutral prosodic be perceived as an affective and vice versa? The study aimed to (1) investigate acoustic profiles of angry, happy, and neutral emotions; (2) find acoustic markers that lead to misperception of emotions in voice. Methods: Thirty-two age-matched respondents (16 males, 16 females, age range 18- 59 years) listened to 270 voice samples produced in neutral, happy and angry intonation. The respondents were asked to determine the voice emotion. A complete acoustic analysis was carried out for each voice sample by PRAAT, which included F0, intensity, spectral and cepstral parameters, voiced segments’ duration, and speech rate. Results. The mean discrimination accuracy for angry emotions was 82.8%, for happy emotions was 70,0%, and for neutral emotions 75.0%. The acoustical data is being processed, and the results will be presented in September.
