The development of the content of Latvian language subject for primary school from 1940 to 1991 from the linguodidactic aspect is chosen as the subject of the Doctoral Thesis, paying equal attention to the content of the subject as well as to its methodological interpretations in connection with the educational aims and tasks formulated in education documents (mainly curricula), that resulted in topics/questions incorporated in textbooks. Doctoral Thesis is a cross-disciplinary research of linguodidactic issues (applied linguistics), studying the development of Latvian linguistics after the Second World War. Attention is devoted to the teaching aspect, as well as the link between politics and ideology and the content of language studies (socio-linguistics). Objective of the research is to analyse and characterise the linguodidactic content of Latvian language subject in the context of development of linguistic ideas in Soviet Latvia. The practical importance of the Doctoral Thesis is connected with the characterisation of elaboration and development of Latvian linguodidactic system over a 50-year period thus providing a possibility for an objective evaluation of positive and negative trends in the Latvian language subject. As the Doctoral Thesis has a cross-disciplinary orientation it is interesting not only for Latvian linguists and teachers, but also for wide profile specialists of humanities and the society, thus the research can be used in different humanitarian study programs and research.
