In the article, the author Olafs Zvejnieks analyzes the attitude of Latvian entrepreneurs towards the war started by Russia in Ukraine, comparing it to the everyday phenomenon of rain — we sigh and take an umbrella. Although the war significantly affects the Latvian economy (slower growth, higher prices, reduced trade with Russia and Belarus), the discussion at the Bank of Latvia focused on completely different problems: the future of energy resources, the legal environment and demography. The need for a liquefied gas terminal and the development of hydrogen technologies was discussed, as well as a forecast that Latvia will have to accept immigrants to compensate for the shortage of labor in the future. The article emphasizes that the consequences of the war are significant, but entrepreneurs focus on practical, controllable problems.
