The program “Krustpunktā” discusses the possibilities of restructuring the heating systems in Latvia, especially taking into account the challenges of energy security and the need to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. Experts and policymakers analyze how existing systems could be modernized to be more efficient, environmentally friendly and economically beneficial for residents. The transition to renewable energy sources, such as wood chips, biomass and solar energy, as well as the potential for using local resources are discussed. The discussion presents opinions on the advantages and disadvantages of centralized heating, especially in cities where the infrastructure is already in place but needs to be adapted to modern requirements. The participants also focus on social aspects - how the restructuring of heating will affect residents' bills, how to ensure a fair transition and how municipalities can support this process. The need for clear policies, long-term investments and public involvement is emphasized so that heating systems become a solid foundation for Latvia's energy independence.
