The origins of the Riga Center Humanitarian Secondary School can be traced back to 1885 – in the City Latvian Girls’ Elementary School, which has changed names and locations over the course of 140 years. During the interwar period, the school operated as Riga City Elementary School No. 8 and Riga City Maija (8) Elementary School, during the years of World War II in German-occupied Riga – as Riga City Elementary School No. 8, after the war – again Riga City Elementary School No. 8, and from 1955 – Riga Secondary School No. 50, where English was taught in depth. Since 2001, it has operated as Riga Center Humanitarian Secondary School. Initially, the school premises were located at 46 Suvorova (now Krišjāņa Barona) Street, from 1914 at 24a Bruņinieku Street, from 1971 at 97a Krišjāņa Barona Street, in 2014 the school was also given a building at 116 Krišjāņa Barona Street. The study reflects the school's activities from 1918 to 1955. It is based on archival documents, museum and library collections.
