Further Education of Rural Teachers In Informatics as a Tool for Competitiveness Improving of Universities’ Graduates

The current concept of Informatics in secondary schools brings problems for universities regarding the work with first year students from rural schools. To resolve this problem Riga Technical University (RTU) develops new curriculum of IT courses by carrying out two simultaneous activities: fulfilling funded by European Social Fund project for improvement of basic courses in computer science and fulfilling continuing education of teachers of Informatics of rural secondary schools via Internet. Thus is realized feedback drawing knowledge of school’s graduates (future university entrants) to the desired conditions. Main results in regards to regional development are: - schools’ graduates become more competitive in universities; - teachers in Informatics have the opportunity to gain required by Ministry of Education and Science further education on their place of adobe; - is developed Internet-based further education environment for another types of rural inhabitants;  teachers in Informatics are the most appropriate attendances for approbation and implementation of new educational methods and techniques.
