Impact of Knowledge and Innovations on the Sustainable Development of Latvian Economy
Research Development: Economy, Technology, Management 2007
Līga Kamola

Development of science and technology has created prerequisites for a new stage in the economic development of society termed post-industrial society. At this development stage of the 21st century characterised by constantly increasing impact of globalisation on every person’s life and increasingly faster speed of crossing time and spatial borders, knowledge has turned into a crucial production factor. These conditions determine the transformation of the role of knowledge and education - it becomes broader, since both knowledge and education aim at helping an individual to successfully adapt to the new situation. Knowledge and information have turned into a relevant strategic resource.
