In contradiction to other states of former soviet countries, Baltic countries (Lithuania, Latvia Estonia) exit from the Soviet Union didn’t form power deficit in the region. In the present time power systems of the Baltic countries function in the common power ring with Russian and Belorussian systems. The power market in the Baltic isn’t big. But the Baltic countries considerably more lately began the processes of the structurization and liberalization of the electric power branch. This is connected with the fact, that the power system of the Baltic countries historically work in parallel with the Unified power system (UES) of Russia and to a considerable degree they depend on its energy resources. This depending is also characteristically for all countries of European collaboration. The base trends of the Baltic power systems development is an improvement in the infrastructure, the diversification of power supply, extra-energy relations, mechanisms of reaction to the crisis, also energy effectiveness and the best use of the local resources.
