Vehicle Route Management and Remote Control System
2009
Mārtiņš Birznieks, Zigurds Markovičs

In this article the system for vehicle route remote management and for control signal sending to remote device is presented. The place of vehicle is determined using GPS. The module of Telit company GM862 – GPS is used, where GSM modem with an option to use GPRS service and GPS receiver is unified. An application for the control of the module is developed, which can read the GPS data, send these data to remote server by using GPRS and provide an option to receive data from the remote server. An application for handling server functions is developed. Server application ensures the saving of GPS data in the relational database and data saving in the form, which can be used to show these data in GIS. GIS Google Earth 5, Google Maps API Premier, Microsoft MapPoint Europe 2009 and JS Baltija Professional are compared. An option to import the received GPS data in GIS Google Earth is described and demonstrated. The server application function of sending control signals to a remote device is described. The application for simulating the Telit devices is developed to test the system in case more than one remote device has to be handled. The further system development directions are suggested, supplementing the system with an optimal route search algorithm and providing the operation of the system in areas, where GSM network is unavailable.
