Modeling Multimedia Networks
2009
Aigars Riekstiņš

In this work is discussed heterogeneous multimedia data network modeling and is given example of modeling use in such network design process. In first chapter introduction in heterogeneous multimedia data networks is given with basic problem statement for modeling case. In the second chapter modeling possibilities are discussed and their place in design process is shown. In this work modeling is used to choose optimal interconnect topology of some predefined set. Second chapter also shows limitations on choosing of possible topologies. Third chapter shows example multimedia conferencing systems model, architecture and two possible topologies for interconnect and server placement. In this chapter optimization criteria are also defined – namely packet loss and queue size. Forth chapter defines simulation scenario in discrete event simulator ns2 and presents simulations results for discussed topologies. By chosen criteria it is clear that second discussed topology is better by both criteria.
