Elaboration of hygienic textiles is a complex operation of textile and medicine industries. There has been elaborated an advanced technology for the acquisition of modified amber powder (MAP) from Baltic amber (succinite), which contains 3-8% of amber acid. Goal is to study the effect of MAP on skin, subcutaneous tissue and skin derivatives, to determine whether tissues impregnated with MAP solutions do not cause skin irritation and organism sensitization. Research work has been conducted with laboratory animals in accordance with the Regulations No. 58 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Latvia (2006) and in accordance with the European tissue processing histological procedure scheme. Guinea pig skin was processed using tissues impregnated with modified amber powder solution of various concentrations (5, 10, 20%). The effect of MAP is not aggressive, no degenerative changes in the skin, subcutaneous tissue and skin derivatives have been found, epidermis cell stimulation, ceratohialin activation, positive effect on hair clove formation in dermis and hair pigment renovation have been proved. Animals in the exposed group did not produce the effect of skin irritation (redness, erythema, oedema, skin desquamation) or sensitization formation neither according to induction or provocation test. In the course of the research, no change has been found in percentual and absolute number of blood eosinophilous cells or immunoglobulin E level in laboratory group animals. Modified amber powder is characterised by biostimulating effect on new cell formation in skin, subcutaneous tissue and skin derivatives, which stimulates skin and hair restoration; it does not cause skin irritation and does not cause organism sensitization.
