In 1946 with the foundation of the Latvian SSR Academy of Sciences, from the Faculty of Chemistry of the Latvian State University there were formed the Institute of Chemistry (the present day Institute of Inorganic Chemistry of Riga Technical University) and the Institute of the Problems of Forestry (the present day Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry). During the first postwar years besides the existing chairs there were formed the chairs of Silicate Technology and Wood Chemistry. In 1956 the Chair of Wood Chemistry was joined with the chair of General Chemical Technology. In 1958 the Faculty of Chemistry before its inclusion in Riga Polytechnical Institute had 6 chairs, namely, the Chairs of Inorganic and Analytic Chemistry (under the guidance of professor A. IeviĦš), Physical and Colloid Chemistry (professor L. Liepina), Organic Chemistry (professor G. Vanags), General Chemistry Technology (docent L. Osipovs), Silicate Technology (docent J.
