Article indicates the preconditions for VET teachers` professional development. The author deals with actual problems in VET teachers` in-service training. The analysis of VET teachers` profession development needs as a new reality have to be defined through reflection and self-assessment of professional competencies. The most important factor for improving the furher education level of vocational school teachers is their intrinsic motivation and awareness of learning content.
