In most reliability studies, failure rates are treated as constant, however they are changing with age of the components. The paper describes reliability aspects and problems of transmission and distribution networks in Latvia. Reliability improvement practical actions and reliability calculation theoretical methods are described in study. The paper describes a development procedure for modelling restoration after a fault and calculating associated reliability indices and customers’ outage costs.
