The Single-Phase AC Regulator on Base of Bidirectional IGBT Switches

In the work one of the methods for regulation of sinus shape AC voltage is considered for middle-power loads with an active-inductive character. Such a regulator keeping output voltage of sinus shape with stabile RMS voltage must be fast-reacting and worked in closed-loop system. It’s shown that for providing such features Buck and Boost pulse regulators can be applied in AC circuit too. Only in difference from DC pulse converters an electronic switches in the AC system must be with bidirectional conductivity. For this reason an IGBT transistors can be applied with implemented in structure reverse diodes and if such two transistors are connected in series and with contrary conductivity then at simultaneously activating the both one of them will be in on-state and current should pass in both directions. At application of IGBT transistors power of control system is quiet small and therefore it’s possible realize fast reacting and efficient operation of the system. In the paper is described realization of AC regulators with such switches as also are given results of computer modeling. Output voltage ripples are investigated on matter of their admissible range and also efficiency of filtering equipment on LC base is investigated Proper quality of output voltage can be obtained using the proper high frequency of switching and also good parameters of LC filter. Investigations are provided as for case when supply voltage is smaller as the rated output voltage and BOOST operation is realized and also for case when supply voltage is above rated value of output voltage and the stabilizer is working in BUCK mode. Such regulators can be applied for instance in electrical transport self supply systems
