The paper presents results of the preliminary analysis related to the development of the evaluation mechanism for students’ concept maps in the concept map based intelligent knowledge assessment system. Scoring schemes intended for human-based evaluation of concept maps and embedded in the computer-based concept mapping assessment systems are discussed. Overview of the developed system is given and scoring mechanisms implemented in its earlier prototypes are described. Factors affecting students’ score in the mentioned system are identified and decisions concerning the development of a new evaluation mechanism are specified.
