Synthetic calcium phosphates (CaP) have been successfully used as implant materials due to their biocompability and osteoconductivity. Drug delivery systems (DDS) based on porous CaP ceramics provide a more efficient delivery of higher concentrations of drug to the site of infection and minimizes the risks of drug toxicity. The combination of ceramic materials and polymers are prepared for controlled drug deliver. Sodium alginate was chosen due to its useful properties – biodegrability and biocompability. Likewise chitosan was chosen because it’s ecologicaly safe biopolymer with as antimicrobial activity and low toxicity. Lidocaine hydrochloride is commonly used local anesthetic and in this research it was used as a model drug.
