In past centuries the aluminum protective coatings are very important objectives in different industries. By coating of aluminum with alumina the designed materials combines the lightness of aluminum and the hardness of alumina. Alumina coating increases performance and an extends service life. Alumina plasma electrolytic oxide (PEO) and electrochemical oxide coatings under various conditions were prepared for comparative studies. The PEO coatings were prepared by new time correlated profile route. The coating thickness were varied by preparation modes (current intensity in peaks and peak profiles) and also overall process time. In this first research stage the electrolyte composition was kept the same, however the parameters of PEO regime was varied. The samples covered by alumina were subsequently annealed and studied by a number of methods usually applied for solid state. These methods were optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction, x-ray energy disperse spectroscopy, optical spectroscopy and also surface roughness and hardness tests. It was shown that the alumina morphology, structure, and hardness strongly depends on the selected preparation mode profiles.
